Coroner’s Office

The Russel County Coroner is an elected position for a four-year term. The responsibilities include investigating deaths from unknown or violent causes, and deaths that occur while unattended by a physician. The coroner holds inquests, assists law enforcement agencies with investigations, notifies the next of kin of the deceased and maintains accurate and complete records for each case. The office having jurisdiction in Russell County, Alabama handles and transports remains to and from the morgue and to the Alabama Forensic Sciences Laboratory in Montgomery, Alabama.

The coroner’s office is highly involved in volunteering and partnering with organizations and schools to help bring awareness and to educate our community in efforts to lower mortality rates.
